Risk factors for developing warning signs of postpartum cardiomyopathy (heart problems)

  • Age more than 40 years old
  • Overweight or obese
  • Have been diagnosed with any kind of hypertension including gestational hypertension or preeclampsia
  • Those who are diagnosed with gestational diabetes. They are particularly at risk if they have uncontrolled blood sugar control
  • History of smoking
  • Family history of heart disease

Risk factors for developing warning signs of postpartum hemorrhage

  • Those who are diagnosed with pregnancy related complications such as uterine rupture, placenta praevia and placental abruption
  • Experienced lacerations during delivery and the wound remain unrepaired
  • Taking any form of medications or supplements that can interfere with blood clotting ability such as aspirin, ginkgo biloba or ibuprofen

Risk factors for developing warning signs of deep vein thrombosis (DVT)

  • Age above 35 years old
  • Overweight and obese
  • Smoking
  • Family history of venous thromboembolism or if the woman has been diagnosed before
  • Have been diagnosed with any kind of hypertension including gestational hypertension or preeclampsia
  • Has been put on strict bed rest during pregnancy
  • Delivered via caeserean section
  • Experienced any form of haemorrhage during the third trimester regardless of whether need transfusion or not
  • Have been taking birth control pills

Plan your pregnancy diligently. If you have any kind of health history which puts you in a risk to develop postpartum complications, this is the best time to discuss it with your doctor. Plan your pregnancy right and you would be okay.

Comply to all of your prenatal checkup. Ensure that you attend every single appointment that has been scheduled for you. This is especially important if you experienced pregnancy related complications.
